Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are the dealers listed on
this site really offering free
satellite tv systems?
A. Yes! We only list
dealers who offer free satellite
tv systems on this site.
Q. Can I sign up for the
free satellite tv offers listed
on this site if I live outside
of the US?
A. No! The free
satellite tv offers listed on
this web site are for customers
located in continental US and
Hawaii.
Q. If I live in an apartment
or condo can I still get a dish?
A. Yes! In most cases,
yes, if you have a balcony. The
law requires that your landlord
must give you permission.
FCC rules permit residents of
rental property to install a
satellite dish, but only in
certain areas. Generally, FCC
rules permit renters to install
a dish only in areas that are
subject to the renter's
exclusive use and control.
Generally, this means an area
that you may use, but that is
not available for the general
use of all tenants. Such an area
may include a balcony, patio,
yard, deck or other area that
only you have the right to use.
If you have such an area, you
may install a dish. For
more information please visit http://www.fcc.gov/csb/facts/otard.html
and at http://www.fcc.gov/csb/shva/.
Q. Can I get local channels
with a satellite tv system?
A. You can subscribe
to local channels when you order
your programming from the DISH
Network or DirecTV or you can
use an over the air antenna and
plug it into the back of your
satellite receiver. You can even
keep cable for just the local
access, although local channel
access is now available through
satellite TV (contrary to what
your local cable service
operator/provider may be
currently advertising).
Q. How is satellite TV
different from cable?
A. Your cable company
chooses which channels they get
the best prices for then they
limit your viewing options to
those channels. With satellite
TV, you get to choose and only
pay for those channels you want
to watch. Most people are
surprised at how many great
channels there are to watch that
they never knew existed.
Q. Can I watch two different
programs be on more than one TV
in my house?
A. Buying separate
Satellite Receivers for the
various television sets in your
home gives you the flexibility
of watching different programs
on different TVs. To do this,
you'll need to have a dual-LNB
Satellite System. The dual-LNB
Satellite System (sometimes
called a "deluxe
system" or a
"multi-room system")
allows you to use additional
receivers so the members of your
household can watch different
channels or pay per view
programs in different rooms at
the same time. If all of your
Satellite Receivers are
connected to the same land-based
phone line, then Satellite TV
provider can "mirror"
your subscription package for a
small addition monthly.
Q. Can I get a Satellite
Internet Access?
A. Yes. You can get a
satellite internet system from Mini-Dish.com.
DSL service is also available
from DirecTV
DSL and it is less expensive
than satellite internet access
if it's available in your area.
